Food Quality charter 3A

Food processing demands from the producer a high level of cleanliness and hygiene.
The imposed measures are draconian and beyond standard practice. The equipment and accessories to be included in the food processing must be meticulously chosen.
That equipment must be homologated in relation to their design, manufacture, installation and maintenance; the material used must be food compliant and must meet satisfactorily the new regulations set up by the Ministry of Public Health (Department of Health in the UK).

In order to answer all these ever increasing heavy and harsh demands, we follow the food Quality charter 3A.

Labelling our gate valves and accessories with the symbol 3A conveys an acknowledgement of compliance towards the technical specifications and good practice outlined by the 3A committee, represented by internationally recognised bodies such as: IAFIS (International Association of Food Industry suppliers), IAFP (International Association for Food Protection), USPHS (United States Public Health Service), USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) and EHEDG (European Hygienic Equipment Design Group).

The materials our gate valves and accessories are made with, meet the requirements of the "positive list", in annex I of the 22/08/2002 paper concerning the ACS (Certificate of Compliance with Hygiene Regulations), and the recommendations of the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for the material in contact with food.

Orders intended for food application must be subjected to a specific release.

Directive PI Marking

1/ Field of application for the p Marking:
From the 1st July 2003, all transportable pressure equipment (tankers and vessels) and pressurised accessories having a direct safety function must bear the p marking, in compliance with the 99/36/CE Directive.

2/ Requirements of the Directive:
Tankers and vessels are classified in three categories depending on pressure and volume, valves and accessories must be evaluated to the same or greater level than that of the vessel or tank onto where they are installed.

Transportable pressure equipment category
Evaluation modules
Valves and accessories
Directive 97/23/CE
Cat.1 : Vessels where the product of multiplying the test pressure by the capacity is equal to or less than 300 bar x litre.
A1, D1, E1
Cat.II
Cat.2 : Vessels where the product of multiplying the test pressure by the capacity is greater than 30 pa and equal to or less than 1500 bar x litre.
H, B+E, B+C1, B1+F, B+D
Cat.III
Cat.3 : Vessels where the product of multiplying the test pressure by the capacity is greater than 150 Mpa (1500 bar x litre).
G, H1, B+D, B+F
Cat.IV

3/ Specifications of the Méca - Inox products:
Considering that the user's specifications are not always known or fully released, Méca - Inox has opted for the most constraining method of evaluation for its products. PS4 standard, PY4 (1), Valve, filter.

(1) Within the regulation framework of ADR (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road), Transportable Cryogenic vessels must be compliant with NF.EN.1256 standard, and the valves installed on those vessels must meet the requirements stated in standard NF.EN.1626.

4/ Additional Technical Assessments:
Considering the additional risk assessment requested in order to carry out the most constraining evaluation, we recommend for applications involving a high vibration risk during transport, an additional option (2) involving the replacement of the standard nuts with self-locking nuts.

(2) The user is held solely responsible for the choice of the option, based upon his risk assessment of the tank or vessel.

5/ Specifications for PI marking:
All valves and accessories (clapper and filter) of any DN (Nominal Diameter) intended for transportable tanks and vessels are subjected to PI (3) marking.

(3) Marking (4) : Pi 0035 (Nº of the notified Inspection Body) /-40°C (Operating ambient temperature)

(4) as from DN 32, there is a double marking p and CE.

6/ Specified option:
Following our recommendation in point 4, a pi kit is being created for orders implying vibration risks during transportation.

7/ Certification and Agreement:
Standard valves and accessories have been evaluated according to the module H1 for category IV of Directive 97/23/CE5).

PY4 having to comply with standard NF EN 1626, must be subjected to an additional evaluation in accordance with module B (Examination type CE).
