General remarks : Starting from may 30th, 2002, the equipments under pressure installed on the European territory will have to be in conformity with the community rules, i.e. with the Directive 97/23/CE regarding the equipments under pressure. The directive is applicable to the design, manufacture and evaluation of the conformity of the equipments under pressure for which the maximum allowable pressure is superior to 0.5 Bar. The conformity to the directive involves :
Thus, the manufacturer is responsible of the design, manufacture and final control. Any intervention on the equipment by another person may question this responsibility. For MECA-INOX : Our company has begun its conformity update through a normative watching, taking into account our certificaiton NF EN ISO 9001 and the agreement AD-MERKBLATT WO -TRD 100 / TRG 200. An evaluation has been made by the notified orgnization TÜV Rheinland France on september 10th, 2001. The purchase of cast with CE markings have begun, with a long delivery time because of the modification of the machines by our cast supplier. Starting January 2002, we will be able to supply equipments with CE marking for special demands. This must allow a total renewing of our stock at the deadline given by the Directive. Classification of the ball valves : The standard items of Meca Inox answer to the most demanding classification of the directive, in order to cover all fluids (dangerous fluids, gas or liquid). We have grouped our products in 2 families according to the enclosed directive’s table (cf table 6, annex II). In the Directvie, this is defined in the article 3 point 1.3 a : For the fluids of group 1 (dangerous fluids, gas or liquids), when the DN is bigger than 25, and for a maximum allowable pressure superior to 0.5 bar.
Type : PS4, P2, RST with a DN bigger than 25, will be marked CE on the body and provided with a conformity declaration and a service instruction, in the case or by separate mail. Type : PS 4, P2, RST with a DN smaller or equal than 25 will not be marked CE. And according to the Directive 97/23/CE relative to the equipments under pressure, ball valves with characteristics smaller or equal than the limits given in the table are designed and manufactured according to the book. The ball valves belonging to category 3.3 will not be marked " CE ". Thus, the Company MECA INOX has no duty to provide a CE conformity declaration, and has decided not to charge you with the costs involved by this new imposition. The other documents have to be specified upon order (test and materials conformity certificate 2.2 or 3.1b, conformity certificate, etc.) and will be invoiced each 6 €uro. Given the complexity of the directive’s text and the various possible interpretations, we stay at your disposal for any other information you may need. |
